The Cathedral Choir

Rochester Cathedral Choir sings for the daily round of services during school term-times (with the exception of Wednesdays and Saturdays), as well as during the periods of Christmas and Easter. It also frequently performs in concert, on Radio broadcasts and on recordings, as well as touring to the UK and abroad. The Choir is directed by the Director of Music Adrian Bawtree.

Choristers

Presently all Boy Choristers and some Girl Choristers are educated at King's Rochester Preparatory School, where they receive a generous Choral Music Scholarship, as well as Vocal Coaching, Theory Tuition and other instrumental provision.  All new Choristers starting from September 2020 will be educated at King’s and join a new mixed treble line of boys and girls, all aged 8–13. Chorister Experience Days are held annually for those interested in applying to audition for the choir.  Auditions normally take place in Year 3 for entry into Year 4, although entry into later years may sometimes be possible.

Lay Clerks

At Evensong on Thursdays, Fridays, and the three Sunday services (Mattins, Eucharist and Evensong), the Choristers sing with the six Principal Lay Clerks (Altos, Tenors and Basses). These are sometimes supplemented by an additional pool of Deputy Lay Clerks.

Experienced singers are welcome to audition to join the Deputy Lay Clerks. Please contact the Director of Music on adrian.bawtree@rochestercathedral.org
