Library Volunteers

The team of volunteers also help catalogue, clean and conserve fragile books and work on projects to make our collections more accessible to the public.

A warm attentive welcome is provided for visitors. The Library houses some of the Cathedral’s greatest treasures including medieval manuscripts and an excellent post-Reformation Bible. Find our more about the history of the Chapter Library and explore some our finer collections online:

Chapter Library

After the dissolution of the Priory of St Andrew at Rochester Cathedral, the former monastic vestry dating to the time of the Black Death was designated the Chapter Library and remains so to this day. It can be found through a fine 14th-century doorway in the east aisle of the South Quire Transept.
